ZINNIAS, SUNFLOWERS, DAFFODILES

Well I have been busy with school more than busy blooming but, I have made a few that I can finally post.  The puffy blooms remind me so much of zinnias especially when they are the really bright colors, though a good friend suggested they reminded her of dahlias.  I guess here in Texas I have seen more zinnias than dahlias.  Either way, they are fun.

It's almost time to see the fun sunflowers in the summer
Daffodils are through for the year but here is my summer imitation.  Using fabric brings a lightness, and extra dimension of fun.  The fabric puff on top brings more dimension to the flower.

Flower making is fun!!!!! Felt, Fabric, Buttons, Hot glue, needle and thread is all you need to create your own imitation of your favorite bloom.  Better yet, let me do it for you!

One piece of fabric, SO MANY BLOOMING COLORS!!!!

Well, it is friday again and I had time to sit down and actually create the blooms I have been throwing around all week after teaching Pre-K all day.  Ever since our time changed I have been tired and today someone hit the nail on the head.  I have spring fever, and so do the kids.  We all would rather be out blooming rather than in school.
Remember last week I shared that I had bought some batiks on my quilt store adventure.  Well one reminant piece was tye dyed batik and it had alot of colors.  Here are the many different color blooms I made with the one piece ( and still have more left).  I was really amazed when I looked at all the combos that came out it.

I have a green and blue one I am working on as well.  The fabric likes the dies that don't have so many petals, so I used the same die on the fabric petals  I loved picking the buttons and felt to go with them.  The purple, and blue one has some tulle added which was a touch I saw and am adding to a few of my flowers.
If you are using my blog to get ideas of how to make your own flowers, just let your imagination fly.  I do often look at real flowers for inspiration.  If you are using fabric you need fray check, which is available at Joanns, and I got mine at one of my favorite quilt shops Happiness is Quilting.
The other ingredients are wool felt, fun buttons, wire, thread and hot glue to hold it all together.
If you like my blog because someday you want your own Nanny Bloom, enjoy, and remember I will make you what ever colors you want, just ask.
My daughters have been soldiers about giving my ideas on pinterest of all different kinds of felt flowers.  I love all of the ideas, and have been playing with the mum look.  Below are my two mum attemps.  I actually need to credit the tutorial that I used from http://blog.betzwhite.com/2007/01/felted-brooch-tutorial.html.  It was a great tutorial, though I did change things for my own use.
The blue one is a large flower and the orange medium (even though the pics look the opposite).

Check out my bloom page for the new things available, and have a great weekend

OUT SHOPPING

You know, just about anywhere you can get a creative idea.  I love accessories, and variety.  Making the blooms give me ways to be creative in accessorizing.  One of the girls at work bought a couple of blooms to wear on her ball caps.  I had to see what they look like on caps.  Decided since it was getting close to patriotic holidays I would try a red white and blue ( sorry I am not in the hat, I can't take the picture and pose).

WHILE I WAS OUT SHOPPING------

I saw the usual straw bags that are out for spring and some pretty spring scarfs.  One of the straw purses had a big vinyl flower on it and I had to try a Nanny bloom out.   I already had a straw purse, and a spring scarf, so here are my renditions of adding a bloom to anything.....

Hmmm, now what to wear with these accessories?

Hope these give you ideas for making your wardrobe bloom, either with or without a Nanny bloom.

A visit to the quilt shops

Fun Fun Fun!!! I love taking little road trips with my friend Lori to quilt shops.  We always find something else we are just going to have to make, but this time, I stayed focused, and found some fabrics I just had to try in the blooms.  I always love the batiks but have never used them in my quilting adventures.  Oh boy, did I find  a way to use them!

I looked in the clearance and fat quarter section and found some great batiks to try.  Also got a bottle of Fray Check to keep the fabric from fraying and this is what happened after taking my sizzix die cutter and my imagination and putting them to work on some new fun blooms.

I decided to try tool in this one as well.  Notice the fabric layer?

This one has 2 fabric layers and a new 3 D puff in the center

This one is a medium with 2 layers of the blue batik.  I really like the
way the batik looks.

I haven't posted these in the bloom section yet, but I have several that will be posted later today.  Take a peak.

A little Easter lesson in the flowers

I DON'T KNOW ABOUT YOU BUT, I LOVE EASTER.  There is so much new life popping out all around us, how can we not see God in his creation.  I have always marveled at the different colors in grass, the different colors in trees and the many shades and colors in flowers.  This week in my preschool class we made this garden dish tulip out of plastic spoons.  Each child had 3spoons and colored the back sides of them.  You would have thought they would have colored them all the same to make their flower, but no one did.  It reminded me that God did not color His flowers all one color either.  Our lesson this week was on the new life in creation and the new life we can each have through our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
We can all have a flower lesson today and every day.  Jesus came that we might have life.  ENJOY YOUR EASTER TIME WITH YOUR FAMILY AND NOTICE GOD'S BEAUTIFUL WORLD
BY THE WAY HERE IS MY NEW PERSONAL FAVORITE, NOT FOR SALE!  COLORS CAN BE DUPLICATED, CENTER MAY BE DIFFERENT.
                                                      HAPPY EASTER!
